Victim Offender Dialogue (VOD) is an opportunity for victims to meet and talk with offenders in a safe, structured setting.  VOD is a communication process designed to benefit the victim, the offender and the community.  Participation in VOD is voluntary for both individuals.  A dialogue meeting takes place only when both are ready and agree to proceed.

Victims may choose to participate

  • for the opportunity to be heard by the offender in a safe environment ith the assistance of a mediator
  • to ask remaining questions and learn more about the crime and the offender
  • to take an active role in resolving the incident in a positive way
  • to help the offender understand the human aspect of crime
  • to discuss restitution and actions the offender can take to make amends

Offenders may choose to participate

  • for the opportunity to explain the circumstances of the offense in a safe environment with the assistance of a mediator
  • to take an active role in resolving the incident in a positive way
  • to take responsibility for their actions: to reach agreement on restitution
  • to offer an apology to the victim
  • to help bring closure to the offense and help the victim do the same
