TEFAP --The Emergency Food Assistance Program

This program is responsible for the purchase and distribution of a wide variety of nutritious USDA commodities.  Commodities are provided free of charge to families and individuals in need of food assistance.
TEFAP is coordinated statewide by Community Action Program, Belknap-Merrimack Counties, Inc.  Community Action Agencies coordinate and conduct commodity distributions to food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and charitable institutions.  These feeding organizations are run primarily by volunteers.
Commodities distributed include: frozen and canned meats, canned and fresh fruit, canned and fresh vegetables, juices, pasta, rice, hot and cold cereals, trail mix, nonfat dry milk and peanut butter.
There are currently 200 organizations throughout New Hampshire that receive and utilize USDA/TEFAP commodities for distribution for home consumption or for on-site congregate meals.
