Senior Companion Program of NH

Companion volunteers regularly visit peers who are socially isolated due to physical or emotional frailties. The primary purpose of their visit is to encourage independence and improve the quality of life of both the frail elder and the senior companion.

Senior Companions

Senior Companions ease loneliness and promote well-being in at least three distinct ways:  they boost self-esteem;  they help clients solve problems;  and they provide personal assistance with daily tasks.   These volunteers are not home health aides or housekeepers. They are friends and companions.

Depending on individual needs, Senior Companions can:

  • Share hobbies
  • Encourage exercise
  • Do errands
  • Read or write letters
  • Make community contacts
  • Provide respite services
  • Provide transportation to medical appointments

No fees are charged for Senior Companion visits.

Are you interested in becoming a Senior Companion volunteer?

In exchange for 20 hours of service per week, Senior Companions receive a nontaxable stipend, mileage reimbursement, educational programming, and recognition events.

The Senior Companion Program is a federally-funded volunteer service provided by seniors aged 60 and older who want to use their time to contribute to their communities as Companions.
