SNAP DivisionSpecial Needs Access Program The Fixit Program has created the SNAP division. All projects done through this portion of the program will be done for money and a financial agreement will be made with recipients. Projects considered will include, but are not limited to:
All projects done in the SNAP program will have a set charge. The charge must be enough to pay for the salary of the carpenter/person hired and the administrative time of the person(s) responding from the office. Through the SNAP division it is hoped that an affordable alternative can be presented to our clients. Temporary Modular Ramps In 2001 Fixit Volunteer Dick Rayno of Franklin recommended to the Fixit Director that we get involved in modular ramps. "Why" was the question as building the ramps is not a "minor maintenance or repair" project. Dick's answer: "because they are 80% recyclable"! Because of the concept of recyclablility The Fixit Program has been involved in helping clients learn about ramps. Occasionally we are asked to build ramps, and with a hired contractor, we have. On average we have assembled 5 - 6 ramps per year starting in the Spring of 2001.. Presently we are upgrading the decking material from pressure treated boards to composite decking. Though much more expensive, we estimate the composite material will last some 30 - 40 years. This means that the material will be recycled through some 15 to 20+ clients, thus saving the cost of the material over and over again. We are looking for a funder willing to sponsor the upgrading concept. Every $1,000 donated will equate to some $15,000 over the life of the materials.
