Senior Companion Program of NHCompanion volunteers regularly visit peers who are socially isolated due to physical or emotional frailties. The primary purpose of their visit is to encourage independence and improve the quality of life of both the frail elder and the senior companion.
Senior Companions ease loneliness and promote well-being in at least three distinct ways: they boost self-esteem; they help clients solve problems; and they provide personal assistance with daily tasks. These volunteers are not home health aides or housekeepers. They are friends and companions. Depending on individual needs, Senior Companions can:
